Ikea Billionaire miser

Why Ikea Billionaire Ingvar Kamprad is probably the World's Worst Miser alive!

Ikea founder Ingvar Kamprad: net worth $41.2 Billion, steals condiments from restaurants and toiletries from hotels.

Ingvar Kamprad is the ninth Richest Man in the World with a Fortune of  $41.2 Billion.

Here are his self-proclaimed feats of penny-pinching in order of thriftiness...

  • Recycles tea bags.
  • Steals toiletries from hotels.
  • Steals salt and pepper packets at restaurants.
  • Only wears second-hand clothes bought at flea markets.
  • Tries to get cheaper haircut when travelling in poorer contries.
  • Eats at Ikea cafe for free meals. Otherwise he frequent cheap restaurants.
  • Purchases Christmas paper and presents in post-Christmas sales.
  • Has a 1993 Volvo 240 but prefers to use public transportation.
  • His home is furnished with Ikea furniture he assembled personally.
  • Flies only economy class.
  • Haggles for bargains at common markets.
  • Lives in a modest house.
  • He flew his country for lower taxes in Switzerland's tax haven. Normal, a good business decision. Only idiots want to pay taxes!

Nothing better than a free hot-dog at one of his Ikea stores.

I admire his thriftiness.

JEMMY WOOD, first commoner to become millionaire

James Wood 1756-1836

Figure of James Wood
Jemmy was the first commoner to become millionaire, but was famous for being a miser. He is mentioned in Charles Dickens' book "Our Mutual Friend", and may have inspired Dickens to create "Scrooge".
An Eccentric Banker, Draper, Undertaker and Miser?
He made his fortune by running the 'Gloucester Old Bank' in Westgate Street. There were many stories about his meanness including that he dressed in shabby clothes, and even turned down the Mayor's job because of the expense. He was disliked so much that a newspaper reported that crowds jeered and threw stones at his coffin during his funeral in St Mary de Crypt Church. However, he may have been less mean than is generally thought. According to his diaries he had a busy social life, and enjoyed good food.
